My Research (in Organizational Learning and Knowledge Management)

Organizational Learning and Knowledge Management
(My Research Interest)

I have now accumulated a whole host of sites on this topic. The field really exploded in the 1990s, and more and more companies, consultants, and academics are expressing/advertising their views over the Web.

The format has undergone many changes over the years. While most of my research was complete by 1999, I can send to you my reading list in "raw" form. Just send me an email with your request.

*This site was listed, amongst many other useful resources in Knowledge Management, in The Knowledge Management Yearbook 1999-2000 (thanks to Robert Magnan for compiling the list and including mine!!!)

*Page last updated on June 11, 2015

Thanks for your support, contributions, and comments over this year of continuous building, learning, and creation!

Please send email if you have other links/suggestions not included here. Also let me know how this resource may have helped you. Make sure you tell your friends and tell these sites that you first saw them here!

KMIS 2010: Hotel Sidi Saler, Lugar Playa Del Saler S/N, 46012 Valencia, Spain: October 25-28, 2010.

"Knowledge Management (KM) is a discipline concerned with the analysis and technical support of practices used in an organization to identify, create, represent, distribute and enable the adoption and leveraging of good practices embedded in collaborative settings and, in particular, in organizational processes. Effective knowledge management is an increasingly important source of competitive advantage, and a key to the success of contemporary organizations, bolstering the collective expertise of its employees and partners. There are several perspectives on KM, but all share the same core components, namely: People, Processes and Technology. Some take a techno-centric focus, in order to enhance knowledge integration and creation; some take an organizational focus, in order to optimize organization design and workflows; some take an ecological focus, where the important aspects are related to people interaction, knowledge and environmental factors as a complex adaptive system similar to a natural ecosystem. Information Sharing (IS) is a term used for a long time in the information technology (IT) lexicon, related to data exchange, communication protocols and technological infrastructures. Although standardization is indeed an essential element for sharing information, IS effectiveness requires going beyond the syntactic nature of IT and delve into the human functions involved in the semantic, pragmatic and social levels of organizational semiotics. The two areas are intertwined as information sharing is the foundation for knowledge management. KMIS aims at becoming a major meeting point for researchers and practitioners interested in the study and application of all perspectives of Knowledge Management and Information Sharing."

"The importance of various forms of knowledge for socio-economic development is a key element of the contemporary discourse in politics, economics and social sciences. From a historical perspective, breakthroughs in development of the economy, culture and society have always been connected to the generation and application of new knowledge. In the second half of the 20th century however science, information processing and highly qualified human resources acquired such enormous significance that modern society has been increasingly described as a “knowledge society”. "This website is a resource site aimed at people who wish to transform the way that they work; the way that they manage and interact with other people in their organization and who wish to better leverage workgroup technology. A wealth of information exists that can help us thrive in this new economy.
This site acts as a gateway to much of this knowledge and covers a growing smorgasbord of topics (both business and spiritually oriented) including Knowledge Management, Learning, Thinking, Creativity, Personal Mastery; Personal Knowledge Management and the effective use of Technology. The site has also been designed to help you connect the unconnected. You should not only be able to easily find information you are searching for but hopefully tumble into new areas of interest."

KM Resources (sponsred by Smith Weaver Smith, compiled and maintained by Denham Grey)

"We are pleased to provide this comprehensive annotated introduction to Knowledge Management resources on the web.

The development of KM reference sources has been a haphazard affair since the Knowledge Management Forum site was put into mothballs during August 1996. Most sites have broken links or do not follow a consistent update policy and there is much duplication. Independent sites are maintained (and frequently not maintained) by individuals, organizations, consultants, and commercial software vendors.

This resource directory includes references to sites where KM is the main focus and to pages of KM information or links within a more comprehensive site."

"I am an independent thinker, researcher, consultant, author, and speaker. I am mostly known for my work on communities of practice, though I consider myself a social learning theorist more generally. Theoretically, my work focuses on social learning systems. I am trying to understand the connection between knowledge, community, learning, and identity. The basic idea is that human knowing is fundamentally a social act. This simple observation has profound implications for the way we think of and attempt to support learning."

Providing knowledge and learning since since 1997!
